The scene at the end, where Lionel told the king to say the speech directly to him, one person. Just like good writing.

Chris, I remember lots of writers who tell me they create this personal myth that they are writing to their mom, or speaking to the person next to them at the bar, any device that helps the writer find words that resemble clear human speech. There is always that dynamic between the one and the many.

말하기나 글쓰기 모두 마찬가지다. 대중이 아닌 한명에게 부담없이 (엄마에게 혹은 술집에서 옆 자리에 앉은 사람에게) 얘기하듯 쓸 것.

It was amazing to learn that the screenwriter, a man in his 70s named David Seidler, stuttered in his youth and became attracted to this story from his own experience.

지금 70대인 작가도 젊었을 때 말을 더듬었고, 자신의 경험으로 부터 이 이야기에 끌리게 되었다. 정말 자신이 아는 것을 쓸것.

One effect of reading it aloud is the ability to experience the words in a strict linear way. It also lets us know how we sound. I recently re-read a draft of a book I wrote and I realized, after reading parts of it aloud, that it didn't sound like me. I also re-read in public an essay I had written about 20 years ago, and I was delighted on how it sounded. In fact, it made me laugh out loud.

When I read my work out loud I often notice that sentences that look OK on the page are often clunky and complicated to read. Reading out loud helps me remember to simplify.

Think of everything the protagonist learned during the two hours of the movie, how much he changed. How he "stepped up" to use a sports cliche. This worked by means of juxtaposition. Put him next to his father or his brother and he is virtually speechless. But put him next to a commoner, where their common humanity can be expressed, and he finds his voice, at which time, for the first time, the teacher refers to Bertie as Your Highness.
