Motorola to launch tablet with Verizon TV service - Rumour

Motorola will reportedly release a tablet computer incorporating a pay TV service from Verizon before the end of the year. Motorola co-CEO Sanjay Jha has already revealed plans to build an Android tablet. Tying the device to Verizon's FiOS digital pay-TV service could give it a competitive advantage over the many other tablets entering the market this year. Apple failed to extract concessions on TV and online video pricing for the launch of the iPad, but Motorola has good links in the industry and already makes set-top boxes for Verizon's FiOS service. According to a Financial Times (FT) report, Motorola's tablet will feature a 10-inch screen roughly the same size as Apple's iPad. It will be thinner and lighter than the Apple device, and have front and rear-facing cameras for conferencing, say the FT's sources. It will also support Adobe's Flash software, which is used by the majority of websites to deliver video. Android's support for Flash is seen as one of its key advantages over Apple's iOS platform, used on the iPad and iPhone. The Motorola tablet will also be able to operate as a wireless hotspot for other mobile devices, say the sources. [...] Motorola has managed to fight its way back into the mobile market with smartphones based on Google's Android operating system, but its mobile devices unit only turned a modest operating profit last quarter due to a legal settlement. The firm recently agreed to sell off most of its more profitable network equipment arm to Nokia Siemens.
